I have this special partiality lately for the hue of grey, it can be peppercorn grey, metallic silver, or simply the classy fifty shades of grey. And blame it on the broiling temperature, the roll-out-of-bed easy Friday outfit impresses me more than layering does. The core dress code under the temperature of 35 degrees tends to be the sound coupling of utility and luxe. Ultimately, it’s just the right time that fancy layering or sophisticated designer pieces take a break in the wardrobe, since it’s too hot not to wear a pair of killer shoes other than a whole set of comfy clothes. Thus, let’s get back to the inevitable shoe issue, which indicates that if only a person were to be judgmental, it could only be based on judging one’s shoes.
So this outfit tends to be another let-your-shoes-say-it one, which consists of simple and practical pieces like a t-shirt written “Spectacular Sensation” from Acne Studios, custom leather shorts, a double-zipped backpack from Monki, and these metallic silver shoes. Yes, I’m talking about practicality, which I might have probably dismissed in the past. And yes, I’m holding a backpack (finally) rather than a clutch or pouch. I had a crush on this backpack from Monki at the first sight when I happened to spot it in the shop window. Except for the zips which I might slightly have a problem with, this backpack is of high utility while still remaining a scent of stylish vibe. Most significantly, when I push ideas about what’s fun to wear with basic pieces, I amp up embellishment or go for glitter and mood-enhancing shoes——these metallic “Wooster” kicks from Nick Wooster x Greats.
And let’s get back to the mutton, it’s been a while since Laurence and I came up with the idea to do a collaborated photoshoot together. As a matter of fact, the motive of this shoot was originated from Laurence’s partiality for my Heartbeats denim jacket (also seen here). He was told to play dress-up with my jacket according to his own idea and did a photoshoot with me. And the result turned out to be sightly different from my very first thought, at least by judging from the very first sight. I wore fifty shades of grey along with some sporty vibe, and walked off the street in my ‘$400 shoes’(see Carrie Bradshaw’s quote), while Laurence totally embraced his outrageous take on layering and he was so going to an art opening of “Roy Lichtenstein and Pop Culture“. But the cohesion of our outfits did inevitably exist——the idea of matching basic black and white with statement pieces, either a jacket or a pair of shoes. Or at least our spiritual mindsets for dress-up inosculated with each other——wearing jackets in summer for a photoshoot.
Trace back to the year early 2013 when Alexander Wang kicked off his spring 2014 runway, that “Parental Advisory” sweatshirt has ultimately been the most copied and most Instagram-friendly look of the season. However, that sweatshirt didn’t make the cut for me when it finally hit the stores, sartorially and financially, even after months of impatient wait for a instant purchase. Later on this commercial t-shirt edition of that sweatshirt spontaneously caught my eyes. It features Wang’s signature seamless boxy silhouette while embracing an oversize touch. And the bounded Explicit Content logo just provides us with an understated (and cool) alternative to work the collection’s logo detailing.
I simply match the t-shirt with my custom-made leather shorts, whose styling prototype can be found on Wang’s lookbook. In light of texture variation, the “Prisma” pouch from Alexander Wangis an extremely minimal yet statement making finish to the ensemble. With a mesh-pattern embossed leather front and my personal favorite zip fastening, it can be carried everywhere from a coffee shop to an art gallery(and yes, I even carry it for grocery shopping). And dare I just say that I’m one of those shoe stalkers? Or to be more specific, I’m probably made one by these Formula One 1 sneakers from Raf Simons for Adidas Originals. As another one of the most coveted pieces from the spring 2013 collections, it works impeccably well with my partiality for simple outfits by adding a more identical vibe.
