Radar hung out with Ji Nilsson to see how the r&b artist, producer and songwriter spends her days, working on that debut EP/album. Here’s Ji showing us three of her favourite spots in Stockholm.
1. Home studio
Ji usually wakes up around nine in her apartment in Stockholm, starting her day off with Friends. After a couple of episodes she makes her way straight to the home studio, staying there in her pyjamas until hunger reminds her it’s time to eat (which basically means sitting until she’s starving).
She sits by her big window making music almost every day, at the moment also spending time with friend Marlene to create new music together.
Taking a break with Tiger Lord Princess. When it’s time for lunch Ji walks down to her neighbourhood store. “They see me either looking like a bum buying an avocado for lunch, or being all dressed up, buying snus on my way to a bar.”
2. Favourite lookout point
Three times a week Ji takes care of cocker spaniel Smilla, which often means walking her to a lookout point close by where the view shows off Stockholm. She also brings her earphones to listen to the day’s work. “I like to watch the tiny cars and people on the other side of the water, getting that perspective on everything. I might be obsessing over some percussion sound or something, and looking at all the other people out there living their lives gets me out of my head.”
3. Local bar
A really good day ends at Stage, the local bar where Ji can call herself a regular. Meeting up with friends, maybe fellow musicians and friends Beatrice Eli, Marlene and Julia Spada. Or her friends Joanna Nordahl and Karolina Bengtsson, which is the case this evening. They’ve met up to celebrate the Ji Nilsson song Heartbreakfree getting a million plays on Spotify and that the music video for Encore, made by Joanna and Karolina, is finally done.
