Under the moniker of Sportsman, Stockholm based musician Per Magnusson makes beautiful, lo-fi r’n’b, combining smooth vocals and melancholy melodies with deep beats. This week, he treats us to a juicy mixtape ranging from Ennio Morricone to Taylor Swift.
Tell us more about your mixtape.
– I’m just going away to Tanzania for vaycay and inspiration, so I wanted to make a mixtape for the trip. Sportsman was kind of born in Kenya, so it will be amazing to go back to where it all began. It’s a weird mix of music really – everything from Italian film composer Ennio Morricone via my dear friend HNNY to Taylor Swift – but it’s in that way I find myself listening to music these days. Anything that feels pure.
When do you think one should listen to it?
– On some faraway beach.
What was the first album you bought and really loved?
– George Michael’s Listen Without Prejudice. I loved it so hard, still do, though I could never quite figure out how to pronounce his name back then.
