Under the Radar: Ji Nilsson

With her swirling vocals and seductive soundscapes, Stockholm based singer, songwriter, and producer Ji Nilsson is definitely one to watch. In addition to various collaborations together with fellow starlets Marlene, Beatrice Eli, and Julia Spada, this spring will also see the release Ji Nilsson’s stunning single I’m Her. Here she reveals her hidden talent and why she once danced the night away in a sequin fishtail.

Would like to meet…
– Frank Ocean, preferably writing a song together.

Most memorable night out…
– When I turned 25 and hosted a Disney masquerade in my 36 square metres apartment (so yeah, it might have been a night in). It was without doubt the best party night I’ve had in my life. All my friends wore amazing costumes, and I was dancing around in a sequin fishtail until six in the morning, eating a marzipan cake in the shape of an underwater world.

My greatest extravagance…
– I don’t know, I think I rather indulge in buying a lot of really, really cheap stuff. I love flea markets.

In my next life…
– If there is a life after this I will dedicate it to fight for animal rights, though there is a fair chance that I might do it in this life, too.

Wouldn’t recommend…
– To not be a feminist and kind to animals.

My hero…
– All the strong women around me.

Before I die…
– Tokyo.

Hidden talent…
– I have extremely strong pinches; so if you ever need help to open a jam jar, just call me.

Just discovered…
– That I had forgotten what it feels like to be freezing, this year as well.

Dances to…
– Noonie Bao and Clean Bandit’s wonderfully bittersweet song Rihanna.

Laughs at…
Parks and Recreation, and all my hilarious friends, even though I laugh with them, not at them.

Wears…
– Strong colours, white, glitter, and kimonos.
