Radar Recommends w. 1

Two mesmerising videos by Up To No Good and jj, a Ba$gränd Crew mixtape, and a new Daniel Wilson single take place in this year’s first Radar Recommends.

Ba$gränd Crew – GVDSKOMPLEX Mixtape
Just before the holidays, Stockholm rap collective Ba$gränd Crew released their excellent mixtape GVDSKOMPLEX. A mix of megalomania, aggressions, and references to manga and anime, Yemi, Busu, Teo BAS, and Fat Only show that there’s more to the young Swedish hip hop scene than Yung Lean and Sad Boys. Listen to their mixtape here.

jj – My Boyz
Just before New Years Eve put an end to 2013, Swedish duo jj released what might well have been one of last year’s most enchanting music videos, following their latest track My Boyz. Directed by Mattias Erik Johansson and divided into five dark, shimmering chapters, it’s nothing but a mysterious masterpiece. Shout out to Radar Magazine blogger Rosa Gabriela for the amazing styling. Watch it above.

Skin Town – Midnight Lover (Chopped & Screwed by THXXX)
One of the best r’n’b songs of 2013, Skin Town’s Midnight Lover has now been chopped and screwed by Los Angeles DJ Tim Hix. Slow and hazy, it maks the perfect soundtrack for the first sluggish days of the new year. Listen above.

Up To No Good – I’ll Be Gone
Stockholm duo Up To No Good cuts the ribbon on their brand new label OOOO Music with the release of their great new single I’ll Be Gone, accompanied by a mesmerizing video, directed by Martin Löfqvist and with patterns by Lina Forsgren. Watch it above.

Daniel Wilson – Will You
Following countless demos released on the Internet, Michigan artist Daniel Wilson recently released the first taste of his upcoming debut EP, due out in March. Entitled Will You, the track is an elegant blend of minimalist indie, soul, and electronic pop, combined with the unique timbre of Daniel Wilson’s magnificent vocals. Listen above.

Atari Jones – Lunch N’ Breakfast
The latest track from Cleveland-born producer Atari Jones, Lunch N’ Breakfast combines Atari’s smooth voice with rap strands and samples from Kendrick Lamar’s Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe, all in a slow pulse electronic mix, produced by Sango. In addition to the new release, Atari Jones have also made a great remix of Miguel’s song Girl With the Tattoo together with Yarin Lidor. Listen to Lunch N’ Breakfast above.
