Radar Mix: Johanna Knutsson

Merging hi-hats, hand-claps, and a massive slow beat, Sweden’s techno supremo Johanna Knutsson has worked her way into the hearts of techno-lovers all across the world. Based in Berlin and signed to Klasse Recordings, she is a recurrent DJ at a number of esteemed clubs in Berlin and beyond, as well as the co-founder of vinyl label Zodiac 44 and the host of Welcome to my House, a monthly radio show at Berlin’s Sweat Lodge Radio. Here she treats us to a stunning mix of the music she’s into at the moment.

Tell us more about your mix.
– This is a vinyl mix I recorded at home, basically it’s a presentation of what I am feeling at the moment and also a bit of what I’m up to. It contains some own productions that I have made together with Hans Berg, some loops/locked grooves and a track by Daniel Andreasson that will come out on my label Zodiac 44 any day now. Basically, if you walked in to the club in the middle of my set, this is what it would sound like!

When do you think one should listen to it?
– Either when you’re on the train on the way to a club or when you’re having an after party at someone’s house.

What was the first album you bought and really loved?
– It was Burial – Untrue. I had it on my iPod and listened to it every day for five weeks when I first came to Berlin. The weather suited perfectly (as did my mood); grey, harsh, rainy and cold. I was so happy, it felt like I found my way home.
